How Well Do You Know Your Beaker Bong?

Just like any other type of bong, a beaker bong also has complex anatomy. There are different types of bongs coming in different sizes and shapes. Apart from serving the same purpose, bongs come with features that are available in all types regardless of the size and shape of the bong. A beaker bong or any other type of bong is different from other cannabis smoking apparatus. It is an apparatus having one or more than one chamber with water filtering and cooling down the smoke. Following are the different materials used for making bongs.

  • Soft Glass
  • Wood
  • Silicone
  • Borosilicate
  • Metal
  • Acrylic and other materials

However, glass is the most common material used for making bongs of different types, shapes, and sizes. Beaker bong and all other types bongs have common components such as a bowl, mouthpiece and more. In this article, you will learn about every individual component.

Beaker bong

Bowl piece

Bowl piece, this is where smoking starts. The weed you want to smoke is packed in the bowl. Before you pack your weed in the bowl, make sure that it goes through a grinder. You can find bowls in different shapes and sizes. Usually, a bowl is a glass indent having a hole at the bottom. Some bongs have bowl pieces for aesthetics only and some bongs have bowls for functional purposes.

Bowls are now coming with built-in glass screens. Earlier, smokers used to smoke through thin-wired metal screens. If your beaker bong comes with a bowl having thin-wired screens, you will have to replace these screens regularly. You can find these built-in screens of different styles. For example, a honeycomb style screen has a smaller hole.

Ash catcher

As the name implies, this is a glass attachment used for collecting ash. In the absence of this attachment, ash will get into your beaker bong and from there in your mouth. The ash in the bowl sinks through the hole at the bottom and is collected in the ash catcher. However, this is not the only purpose an ash catcher serves. You can find ash catchers having inbuilt percolators. These percolators are used for filtering the smoke. As compared to the whole beaker bong, an ash catcher is very easy to clean.

Joint
Joint is the part holding the down stem of your beaker bong. You can find a joint at the end of the down stem as well. There are some bongs having a fixed stem without a removable down stem. The bowls in these bongs go straight into the joint. In the majority of bongs, joints come in the following three sizes:

  • 10mm
  • 14mm
  • 18mm

In case you are buying a beaker bong for smoking weed, make sure that the joint is a female joint. Male joints, on the other hand, are popular for dab rigs using nails and domes.

Down Stem

A down stem is an important component of a beaker bong or any other type of bong. It is the component bridging the water in the chamber and the bowl. There are different styles of down stems with various functions. The simplest down stem style is simply a glass straw having a hole at the end for causing bubbling. However, there are many other complicated and detailed down stems having built-in percolators. These percolators further cool down the smoke. You can use a plastic clip to fix the down stem to your glass bong. This will make it a lot easier to clear the bowl. Sometimes things become dirty and greasy and stem along with bowl often come out. If you do not fix it properly, it is likely to fall and break.

You can also find lower-end bongs having a bowl and down stem all in one piece.

Percolator

This component serves the purpose of an additional filter. Smoke after passing through water is once again filtered by the percolator.

Ice Pinch/Splash Guard

You can find splash guard in bongs with heavy percolation. It is clear from the name. A splash guard does not let water bubbling getting into the mouthpiece. You can find splash guards with different shapes.

You can also find an ice pinch close to the mouthpiece. There are three glass spikes in the mouthpiece to hold ice. The ice cools down the air coming into the mouthpiece. The modern bongs come with new and better splash guards looking like dome percolators.

Some bongs have bent necks serving the purpose of an additional splash guard. The bent neck stops water from getting out of the mouthpiece.

Mouthpiece

Traditionally, bongs have horizontal mouthpieces. In the majority of the bongs, the mouthpiece is at the highest point. However, bent neck bongs have angled mouthpieces.

Now you are familiar with different components of a bong and the functionalities of these components. The information shared in this article will definitely help in finding the right beaker bongs for sale online.
